He is Risen! In this Easter season Christ is alive in you and me, and that was plainly apparent at our recent annual JYM Easter Party on the 24th of April. There was a turnout of over a hundred youth and parents on the second floor of the SIC Constantini Community Centre from 7.30 – 10-30p.m. that Saturday night. Ask any one of them and they’d probably tell you what a great experience they had!

While there were many familiar faces from previous JYM events, there were also a lot of new ones. However, the fact that we did not know each other was not a problem, as proven by the emcees of the night, Roeshan and Alex. They kicked the event off with a general welcoming and introduction before inviting the icebreaker leaders, Michael and Jonathan, to the stage.

The icebreaking session began with the introduction of a new game which consisted of two teams racing to get to the other end of a set of chairs arranged in a “U” shape by hopping from one chair to the next while making sure their backs touched the every chair. This wasn’t their only obstacle as one person from the other team would also be moving in the opposite direction and whenever two opposing team members met, they would have to play a game of 1, 2, Jus! The winner would continue hopping along the chairs while the losing team would send another person to start chair-hopping as the first person had lost his or her turn. It was a hectic, tiring and “back-breaking” game but an undeniably loud and exciting one. Everyone was laughing by the end of it and we were all ready to play the next game Michael and Jonathan had for us.

Although the following icebreaker was quite simple (getting into groups of any number given by the leaders), it was a great opportunity for us to go around getting to know one another. Knowing that we’d made a lot of new friends made the atmosphere so much more comfortable as the emcees led us in grace and we adjourned to the roof top for dinner.

After filling our empty stomachs with fried bee hoon and delicious chicken curry, the party went on with a hilarious and nonsensical after-meal entertainment entitled Cockroach. This was followed by an Easter drama which told the story of a young man and how he found the true meaning of Easter. We came to realize that Easter wasn’t about wearing fancy clothes to mass, chocolate eggs, bunny rabbits or even Easter parties. Instead, it was about how God so loved the world that his only begotten Son so that whoever believes in him may not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)

It was then time to lighten up the mood with a stunning dance performance by the Youth Rally Outreach Team of 2009 for their final presentation together as one team. The crowd went wild watching their explosive dance moves and the atmosphere could only get more and more hyped up and we drew closer to the most anticipated part of the night: Dancing with the Lord! Led by Bernard, Michelle Nyanam and Ashviina, we danced, sang and praised the Lord with all our heart, souls and minds for the rest of the night.

All in all, the Easter party was an awesome experience and a great time of fellowship in Christ for us young people. Not only did we have a fantastic time with each other, we also had fun celebrating the Resurrection of Christ. And that is what Easter is truly about.
